Since releasing their debut EP 'Limbo' in 2015, the Sydney-based quintet has independently released four self-produced singles, all with national radio success. On the touring front, this premier indie outfit have clocked up thousands of kilometres with five national tours since 2016, an appearance at world-renown Music Matters, Singapore in 2016 and a showcase at Canadian Music Week in 2017. The band finished off a successful 2017 being announced as part of the Australian line-up at the world’s biggest music conference, SXSW 2018 in Austin, Texas and taking out the win for the Australian Music Week Award.
After inking a publishing deal with Perfect Pitch Publishing as well as a booking deal with 123 Agency in 2016, the band have their sophomore EP, 'Deficiency' in the cooker and launched into last year with the release of their explosive single of the same title with a premiere on Rolling Stone Australia, airplay on Triple J and a successful national run of shows that saw them play to packed-out rooms across Australia.
Musically, “Deficiency” is a leap forward for the band. While the majority of their material to date has been reliant on a euphoric scale (see the stadium-sized hands-up cries of “Michael Moore”, the frantic bi-polar build of “Down To You”), here they deconstruct. Balancing grit with glam, the in-ya-face pop-electro confidence is built from a dominant — yet relatively sparse — grinding, mechanical rhythm, that bumps up against a more reflective side (“I’m sick of running out of time”), resembling a introspective nature that’s a far better fit for vocalist Jarred Young’s soulful tone.

The country has produced many impressive electronic pop acts in recent years, and Sydney’s Bad Pony look like they may be next in line to break out.
It’s admirable that everything the band puts out there is fully DIY – be it the songwriting, production, or music videos that really propel the image of the band forward, and naturally the band conveys a true authenticity in their performances. We highly recommend keeping track of this Sydney band, they’ll be all over the world very soon!

Bad Pony’s new single, ‘Half Blood’, is another banger from the group. Filled with soulful vocals, tasty riffs, pounding drums, and a brilliant chorus that will definitely see the track quickly become a fan favourite at upcoming shows.
